This policy explains what personal information Demo Plumbing collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can see or correct it. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
We only collect what we need to quote, book and do your job.
- When you call, text or book a job: your name, phone number and address, your email address if you give it to us, details and photos of the problem, and anything we need to get in, such as a gate code or a note about your dog.
- When you pay: the amount and how you paid. Card payments go through our payment provider, Stripe, and we never see or keep your full card number. If you pay an invoice through this website, you enter your email address, invoice number, the amount and your card details on a page run by Stripe. Stripe passes us your name, email address, invoice number and the payment details, such as the amount and the last four digits of the card.
- When you leave a review: what you wrote and the name you used. We only show a review on this website if you’ve agreed to it.
When you visit this website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. The “Pay an invoice” button takes you to a payment page run by Stripe, which uses its own cookies, mainly to prevent fraud. The quote form doesn’t send anything to us on its own: it opens your phone’s messages app with your details filled in, and we only receive them if you press send.
Like any website, it passes some technical information to the services it relies on:
- Our website host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs, including your IP address and browser type, to keep the site running and secure.
- The fonts load from Google Fonts and the photos load from Unsplash, so Google and Unsplash receive your IP address when the page loads.
How we use it
- To give you a quote, book a time and do the work.
- To text or call you about your job, including when we’re on the way.
- To invoice you and keep our business records.
- To honour our 12-month guarantee and register manufacturer warranties, for example on a new hot water system.
- To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping plumbing and gas compliance records and tax records.
We don’t sell your information. We won’t send you marketing unless you’ve asked for it, and you can opt out at any time by replying STOP or telling us.
Who we share it with
- The plumber or gasfitter doing your job, including any subcontractor we bring in.
- Suppliers and manufacturers, when we order parts or register a warranty in your name.
- Government bodies, when the law requires it, for example compliance records for notifiable plumbing and gas work.
- Our accountant and insurer, and the booking, invoicing and payment services we use to run the business.
Each of them only gets what they need. We don’t share your information with anyone else unless you agree or the law requires it.
Information stored overseas
Some of the services we use store or process information outside Australia. Our website host (Vercel), our payment provider (Stripe) and the services that supply our fonts (Google) and photos (Unsplash) are based in the United States and Canada. Some of the software we use to book and invoice jobs may also store information in other countries. We choose providers that protect information to a standard similar to Australian privacy law.
How we keep it safe
- Job records are kept in password-protected software with two-step sign-in, and only staff who need them can see them.
- Paper job sheets are kept in the office, not left in the van.
- We keep job and tax records for at least five years, as tax law requires, then delete or destroy them.
- If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you, and we’ll tell the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where the law requires it.
Seeing or correcting your information
You can ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to fix anything that’s wrong. Call or email us. We’ll reply within 30 days, and there’s no charge.
Automated decisions
We don’t use computer programs to make decisions about you. A person looks at every job and every quote.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us first and we’ll try to fix it within 30 days. If you’re still not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
